I think this could be a fun fugue subject, sort of a jig melody. It could be tightened up and balanced a bit, but it also works quite well as is.
I took the slowed down sample of the Japanese Winter Wren and through many hearings picked out the closest pitches.
Included here are three samples, starting with the bird song sample (which goes on beyond the melody I wrote), then the melody I created, then a layering of both tracks to show the similarity.
Even though it takes quite a bit of time, I think this method of writing bird song inspired melody has potential. I will post more as I write them. I welcome others to do the same, although I admit it's hard to commit several hours to something which doesn't pay.
Does anyone what to write a fugue on this subject?
The sound is bad in the mixed version because, in order to go from a MIDI file to an MP3, I had to play the MIDI file and record it through a microphone. So there is a lot of extra noise. But you can hear how the two sound similar.
