Great Comment on Learning Music from the Inside Out

Gretchen of Gretchen's Pianos- Performer's Blog wrote this insightful comment a few days ago on this post about practicing:

"...if it can be thought, it can be brought (to life)." What a wonderful thing to say! It IS true.

For years, I could hear what I wanted to play, but didn't have the chops to make it work.

Then, at age 28, I finally found a teacher who taught the MUSIC, the SOUND, the stuff inside the music, what's behind the notes. We never worked on scales, Hanon, or any of that. Amazingly, the inside of my head and the sound outside were able to meet. When that doesn't happen sometimes, it means more practice is needed, or a different approach.
