Greg Sandow; the future of classical music; aging, declining audiences

If more musicians kept blogs describing their personal experiences enjoying classical music, it would go a long way to bridging the gap of interest from younger audiences.

That educated younger people turn away from classical music is not because such music is too complex for them to understand or because they haven't been taught to understand it, he maintains. "They turn away because it doesn't say much that they want to hear."

Sandow doesn't pretend he has any quick fixes for a complex socio-cultural problem, but he does believe part of the solution involves thoroughly overhauling the ways classical music is being packaged, marketed and presented.
