Secret. Don’t tell anyone!

There's something about that last practice recording of JJ 1 that I'm embarrassed to admit. It certainly would alter and perhaps interfere with the performance. Anyone care to guess? It's something you would know if you saw me playing. (and no, it's not that I was naked!)

I hereby abdicate my hard-won prize to Bob, who can make better use of it than I……

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was listening to French String Quartets, quite loudly, through inear phones on my PalmPre. Actually, a beautiful thing happened. At I approached and played the last "picardy third" of the JJ, the first movement of Ravel 4tet also ended, ON THE SAME NOTE!!!! It was so cool.

I could hear, more like feel, the clarinet sound and pitch through me head and teeth….

Betsy wins the slightly used Legere reject reed!!!!!!! Thank you all for playing!!!!

Errrrrr!! What's she going to do with it…strap 2 together and make a bassoon reed!? 🙁

Hey, maybe I should invent a Legere bassoon reed with my reject legere clarinet reeds!!!!

Don't tell me you were listening to music! Or a tuner! Or a metronome! Were you listening to your phone?

  4. September 30, 2009 at

Were you listening to something else while playing? I know some people practice while watching a game …

You’re hot on the trail! Take it another step. What’s worse? (like I said, kids do it all the time…)

That’s a great guess, Gretchen. I do that sometimes. But not this time.

Nothing I DO with my body. Something many young folks do all the time.

I love this! Are you all just kidding me? I keep giving all these HUGE hints. Keep guessing…

I use to know someone who would thrust their hips when they played. Perhaps that?

    • September 29, 2009 at

Nope. No extra motion. Something distracting to the very organs we use to hear. That pretty much gives it away…

  12. September 29, 2009 at

nice try. but no. what do many of us do, often continuously, especially younger ones? It could be considered rude in company…

OK, you have my complete attention. I listened to every note of your practice (prior post). I thought it was especially expressive, plangent and lovely. But I am unable to guess what you are referring to. (?)

So … were you naked (or not)? Is that inappropriate of me to ask?

    • September 27, 2009 at

Can I wait a day or so before answering… to give the throngs of others lurking about a chance give their guesses?
